Stain on your white shirt? That's how you get it away

A selection from grandmothers' house-garden-and-kitchen-tips.

You have a white shirt that you are crazy about, but there is one problem: that same white shirt is gigantic (that, and you have the table manners of a toddler). Practically speaking, you can not eat a pizza without a grease stain or tomato sauce. We have put the golden advice of Auntie Kat in front of you, so for every stain on your white shirt, there is a solution.

Problem number 1: the grease stain

Dab a cloth with detergent on the grease stain. Allow to settle in for a while and hang to dry. Does not this work? Wet the stain with petrol and wash in the washing machine. Success guaranteed.

Problem number 2: your white shirt is 'suddenly' light pink

First, there is nothing wrong with light pink. Secondly: DO NOT STUFF BACK IN THE DRYER !!! What you have to do: stuff back in the washing machine and wash with another detergent. Preferably one with color-friendly pale for the white laundry. If all your laundry is white: use chlorine bleach. If this does not work, let your clothes soak one or two nights in a basin with water and one or two scoops.

Problem number 3: Happy hour was top and now there is beer on your shirt. This is how to avert another stain on white shirt disaster.

Take an old-fashioned bar of soap and massage it with cold water in your clothes. Put it in the washing machine with some extra Vanish on. All being well, your stain should be a thing of the past. Do something less fun next time.

Problem number 4: your pizza Napolitana had too much tomato sauce and your shirt ate it.

Was there also fat? Bad news: you can not get this out. Try rubbing away the stain with (white) toothpaste, this often works with ketchup. There are also success stories about concentrated lemon juice (from a yellow bottle if you're in a rush). Never wash in the washing machine. If the stain still there after all this , it will never come out. Save yourself that intense disappointment.

Problem number 5: you always mess yourself up

Solution: follow Don Drapers's example, work on your table manners and eat with a napkin on your lap - or in your collar. Problem solved, no more stains on white shirts.
